Birthdays and A Sunny Visit with Family

Guess who turned 3 years old this past Friday….DSC05673

Kailey did, yes what a big girl she is getting to be! DSC05593

I also got to meet this little love muffin, Harper (Lauren and Josh’s sweet girl- 6 months old).

I think Alex and I are officially the only married ones who don’t have a baby yet :( but that’s ok because Lauren is one of those new mommy’s who is literally perfect! She went ahead and read every baby book out there and now all i have to do is call her with questions as oppose to reading it myself- SCORE!

Question 1- How did you get THAT skinny THAT soon after having Harper (Ney- feel free to answer that too)?

DSC05614

Stephanie out did herself again this year on Kaileys amazing cake- that tasted as good as it looks!!

Then it was time for the big girls to party….. all night long.

Thanks for the pic steph*

Where else would we go but El Som and Mill House…

Thank Goodness, because those are 2 reasons in themselves that keep calling Alex and I back to Statesboro!

Tina’s birthday bash was this weekend at Mill House as well- could it have worked out more perfect?!?!?!

Note to self- Just realized I didn’t buy one birthday girl a shot or drink-! (SORRY- Rain check!). Also Renee, you truly did break my nose so rain check back at ya for that too.

Speaking of Tina, Tucker and Milly were so happy to see their friends including Tina’s new pup Max (her is a girl) and Tuck did not even bite her as his “Welcome to my hood” indictment.

DSC05587

Lucky girl…Yay Tuck! (Mama says thank you!) DSC05560

I don’t know why I love this picture, I think it says a lot…..and has some pretty cool people in it. DSC05566

Reminds  me of how laid back Statesboro is I think, no traffic, everything is with in five minutes, than ten restaurants to choose from for lunch and some of the best people in the world living there. People wonder why I come from a background of no schedule?

There’s just something about a small town and this visit in particular that has Alex and I scrambling for what in the world he will do for work when we –eventually- move back…. DSC05569

FYI- The Pups thoroughly enjoyed their sleepover with Cass!

Anyway on to the family day…

Sunday, after a full night of drinking and eating grilled cheeses sandwiches at Ney-neys it was time to load the pups up again and go visit the family- Adam, Aunt Linda (visiting from Texas), Amber, Julian and Alex’s mom and Mike.

DSC05820

It was the perfect day for being outside….

DSC05713DSC05711  Milly tried to steal Adam’s heart but Bubba said “It’s taken”!

DSC05722

DSC05704

I don’t know if it’s me or if others think this picture is hilarious?

DSC05729

Maybe it’s just those of us who can appreciate TJ and his camp counselor role?

Anyway, if you love that one you will def “get” this one…. DSC05735

He kept up with the other “kids” for a while but as always was limping after an hour or so….

DSC05756

The princess Julian- excuse me- “Ariel” arrived and showed me how she had learned to write her name “Julian”!

DSC05741

See it?

We also found a great EASY game…. “Ariel show us how fast you can run”!  DSC05770

I swear it got easy after this because she continued to do it by herself… ya gotta love when your dogs suffice as baby sitter/entertainers!

DSC05780

She is truly the best hugger, you don’t even have to hold her she just latches on!

DSC05790

*sisters* DSC05812

We had a great, long, sunny visit with everyone and Mike of course had to end it with fireworks and hot dogs- but this time roasted on the fire and not with just any stick- he had to go find special limbs and cut the edges off s0 that we could properly  roast our hot dogs!  DSC05823

Hope your enjoying some sunshine wherever you are!

Keeping up with my countdown? 10 weeks left!!

A LOVE Day!

Well let me be the first to say-

If my blog was a plant it would be dead.

I think you may start seeing a trend in my blogging about a month after every new semester starts. Things pick up and the blog gets kicked to the curb, traitor i know!

On another note it hasn’t been just school. Like most people, it’s hard for me to blog when sad/stressful things are going on….for two reasons mainly.

1) When sad things happen, naturally fun blog topics aren’t.

2) When sad things happen you become exhausted and the last thing you want to do is talk about it more!

Anyway, all is good for the moment and actually when things started letting up with some things we have been dealing with in Alex’s family what do ya know- school picked up big time! So the last few days I have been waiting desperately to get a free hour to blog!

Ahhhhhhhhhh it’s here! Now On to more fun topics aka the reason you came here in the first place!

Valentines Day!

DSC05487

I’m a lucky girl when I replace one bouquet of flowers with another in the same day!

Speaking of lucky, wanna talk about one romantic Valentines Day dinner?

valentine dinner

Yup! Chinese delivered at about 10:30 at night…. oh yeah!

I know, i know, your vomiting with jealous rage right now.

We actually got to play hookey on Valentines Day from work starting at lunch time because we both had doctor’s appointment to get lab work done.

Well along with that there’s a stipulation of not eating after dinner the night before…. by 2:30 we were starving!!!!

So we hit up the closest Mexican restaurant to kill some cheese dip, nachos and tacos!

We tried as hard as we could to get hungry again but it just wasn’t happening (Billy I know this idea is very confusing to you), but as bad as we wanted Franco’s Italian like we had planned we were in our pajamas by 8:30 and it just wasn’t happening!

We came to our senses/reconsidered 2 hours later what else do you eat in your pajamas on Valentines night… General Sho’s!

Other than food, we enjoyed being home early with the pups on one of the sunniest days yet this week (and i hear it’s getting even better this weekend)! DSC05488 Mill loves her time in the sun!   DSC05510

Tuck and Mill shared their 5th Valentines day together this year but as always TJ, being the gentleman that he is, shared/saved a few kisses from his mom! DSC05512

Milly on the other hand had no time for mama’s kisses…… DSC05523 DSC05527

She’s perfectly continent with the sun and her bone….

Until bed time comes and guess who wants cuddles and kisses… DSC05529

Brat!

Last but not least there’s my true blue valentine right there…. sporting his valentine attire from his valentine  (and too busy playing with a toy to look up!) Go owls!     ;) DSC05537

Love ya Lou! Glad we got to spend the day together even if it did end in our pj’s and a Styrofoam box dinner!!

We hope you had a Happy Valentine’s Day!!

A Big Boy Grill and Home Made Sangria!

Lou’s Birthday party was last Friday and I found myself crawling back out of bed about 1am on Thursday night after finding a yummy “Best Party Sangria” recipe! Majority of the ingredients (wine and fruit) needed to soak over night……… so to the kitchen i go! Yes Lou thinks I am crazy and over kill but that’s ok during birthday season!!

DSC05418

Here’s the recipe from “cooks.com”:

Ingredients:
  • 1 Bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja, Zinfandel, Shiraz)
  • 1 Lemon cut into wedges
  • 1 Orange cut into wedges
  • 1 Lime cut into wedges ( I subbed for apple)
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • Splash of orange juice or lemonade
  • 2 Shots of gin or triple sec (or 3 or 4 :))
  • 1 Small can of diced pineapples (with juice)
  • 4 Cups ginger ale (I used sprite zero)
Preparation:

Pour wine into a large pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon, orange and lime into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and pineapple then add sugar, orange juice and gin. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale, berries and ice just before serving. If you'd like to serve right away, use chilled red wine and serve over lots of ice. However, remember that the best Sangrias are chilled around 24 hours in the frig. - allowing the flavors to really marinate into each other.

DSC05424

Yup that last sentence is what go me out of bed!!

DSC05437

I’d say it was a success though!

I must admit, knowing our crowd, I had a feeling1 batch was not enough…. So I made sure to keep a bottle of pre-made Sangria handy to refill the bowl- that was quickly gone too!!

So we called it quits and walked over to Las Margaritas :)

Apologies:

I have GOT to get better about taking pictures during our house parties… I’m terrible and too busy being a “good hostess” I guess ;)

Leave it to Lance to snap a few though!

DSC05430

DSC05431

Yup that was about all we got,(sorry) but we did have the best night celebrating Lou’s birthday (again)!

In other news… we got a new grill!

True story: We got Andy and Rachel's old one for free (which I was thrilled about!) but not 24 hours later does Lou upgrade!

DSC05466

We got this big boy on craigslist for 75$…. SOLD!

So we spent the afternoon preparing for our grill out!

DSC05444

Just us… the four of us. DSC05445

Tucker and I shared secrets & kisses while waiting patiently…. DSC05447 DSC05448 DSC05452

Birthdays and a Ski Trip

What a weekend, week and another weekend!!

Where do I start?

( In other words brace yourselves)

Well last Friday night (Alexs Birthday) we all RUSHED to the house and (finally) 3.5 hours later (after opening presents,  greeting the “pet sitters” (mom and dad), MAKING and cutting a birthday cake and some last minute packing) we finally pilled in the car to head to Gatlinburg!!

DSC05209

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

The babies were waiting for just ONE piece to drop :)

DSC05244

So after we got all piled in the car, filled up with gas, we were STARVING (for real food)! IMG958942

Taco Bell it is- YES, T bell is real food and YES I felt like a horrible lil’ wifey for not going somewhere nice for dinner on Lous birthday but we do love Taco bell :)

Anyway, finally about 3 a.m.- we made it!!

Our cabin was at the top of this windy (awful) road and as we pulled up to the lobby area we began questioning the “hours of operation” for check in….. No, I did not check that on the website before going.

Do people really do that?

Anyway Alex and Andy jump out the car to try their luck and didn’t make it past the door…. “we’re screwed”, I thought!

So they come back, asking why did I not check the “check in times”, Andy near cusses me out as he cracks open a beer and says “I need a fucking beer for this, guess we’re sleeping in the car tonight”…

I think Rachel and I starred at each other for a good 2 minutes speechless, only to later find out we were both thinking  “cheap Hotel?”….

Anyway, turns out they were kidding and the kind people of Deer Ridge Resort had left a nice envelope with our key in it :)

DSC05287

This was the view of the Smookies from our balcony….   DSC05273

Gorgeous!

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

So after a lazy morning of sleeping in we made bagel sandwiches and packed chex mix- to head up to the slopes!

DSC05290

I saw this old tram and thought it was so cute and rustic…. Then i looked up and realized (a slightly newer version) would be our mode of transportation taking us to the top of the slopes!DSC05294

YIKES!

Ofcourse the normal parking area at the top of the slopes were full- which we didn’t find out until 10 minutes of driving up yet another, awful windy road!

Did i mention i don’t do hills, mountains or winds in a road?!?!

DSC05301 DSC05305  Ohh and forgot one more thing, Alex and I are both scared of heights and at this point (of my blog) I’m questioning why i thought a ski trip would be a good idea….

DSC05306

Anyway,  the boys put their coping skills to use and decided to fill up their T-bell cups (from the night before birthday dinner) with beer and successfully loaded the Tram!

DSC05315 DSC05319 DSC05324

We made it to land… for now!

  DSC05345

It seemed like it took us so long to actually get to Ober that our adrenaline was rushing by the time I finally got my ski’s on and they all got set up with snowboards!

SNV31415

You do a lottttttttt of sitting when learning to snowboard….

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

So i thought it would be so fun to ride up the ski life for the first time with Alex and they fit four people…

Lou didn’t make it though and before we knew it I ended up on the lift with Andy and rachel and Alex were behind us!

SNV31407

We couldn’t believe it- Alex was able to make it off the ski lift with out falling even after we kept teasing him on how it wasn’t going to stop and wait for him!!

SNV31410

But once he sat down to put on the other boot he couldn’t get up!

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

We tried to take a “our first skiing trip together” pic but he could not stand up for the life of him while his feet were connected!

No worries though he was happy as could be trying :)

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

He got it!!

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

But then was down again…. lets just say I did a lot of waiting…

SNV31418

So we fell in love with the bunny slope while we were there!<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

It’s a perfect size and height, not too steep, good curves (all 2 of them), and little flat break areas before each curve!

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

SNV31433

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

So mean while Alex and I are having the best time going up and down our bunny slope and it’s ski lift when Rachel and Andy (from a different ski lift- higher up) go over my head and yell down “Hey meet us at the top of this slope there's fun ones to do around the back of the mountain”

SNV31428

So in some kind of way I told Alex what they said/meant and after talking with some 10 year old kid waiting at the bottom of that line (to the big ski lift) who talked us into getting in line for it, we decided to hop on board….

Almost instantly we knew: This was a bad decision and it was all the other persons fault!

Some of the things going through our minds/being yelled at the other one half way up were as follows:

1) I’m sorry Lou, this was so stupid but I just knew they were going to be mad at us if they waited and we never came

2) Jen, Andy would have never asked us to go up something this high!

3) Babe, I think this is what a panic attack feels like- don’t look down!

4) What the hell were we thinking and why did we listen to a freaking ten year old kid when the sign clearly said “Experienced skiers only”

5) This was so stupid, this was so stupid, this was so stupid!!

6) Dear God, if you please get me down i will never again get off the bunny slope!

Lets just say it was the worst experience in the world, being afraid of heights and hanging in a little metal crate by a wire over the entire city not being able to see the end of how high up you will be when getting off!! Then getting to the top of the mountain, (where Andy and Rachel were not) and figuring out how to get down…. let’s just say we got really good at braking because we did it the whoooooooole way down!

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

Looking back yes, maybe a little funny, but at the time i seriously thought the world was going to end!

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

Safe and sound back on our bunny slope w/ seat belt bar!

We later found Andy and Rachel who explained they meant to meet them at the top of the bunny slope after they got done with the big one!

We forgave them…..<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>

(But i told Andy i wouldn’t have panicked and made an irrational decision if he had not fakely yelled at me the night before for not checking the check in time! I didn’t want to get in trouble- again)

SNV31447

When Rachel saw me and I told her where we went she instantly smiled and said “OMG wasn’t it fun!?!”

You can imagine my response…..

<Samsung NV3, Samsung VLUU NV3>            It started getting a bit cold so we decided it was time for a fire and fudge (which I was told before going- “you have to get fudge in Gatlinburg”)

No arguments there!

DSC05351

We were so exhausted but one ting was missing- Mexican!

So i smelled out “No Way Jose’s” and off we went ski clothes and all (which i need to mention that I forgot about what you wear to and from the ski lift –shoe wise- so i wore my cowgirl boots with ski pants… not cute).

Before heading home we realized we never got a group picture: DSC05358

So there you have it.

Ha we loved it! Rachel and I had said the whole weekend we wanted to go to one of those old fashion photo studios and ended up making our own upon accident when the boys requested we not smile in the picture! :)

DSC05359

We had a great time with only 3 regrets…. going up the big ski lift, having to come down the big ski lift and not staying longer!

SONY DSC SONY DSC

SONY DSC

Bye Gatlinburg! SONY DSC

After some pancakes (which is the other most important thing, besides fudge, you –apparently- have to do in Gatlinburg eat at a pancakes house or “Flap Jacks”).

We didn’t argue with that notion either.

Eventually it was time to head home to relieve the baby sitters and celebrate one of the baby sitters birthday!!

Yup, it was my mamas birthday on Monday!    SONY DSC                       We stuffed down some Key Lime pie and tried out a new restaurant, Franco’s, which we loved within walking distance of our house -before they had to leave to go back to Tennessee!

Thanks mom and dad and Happy Brthday mama!SONY DSC

You know we like Birthdays in this household!! So don’t hate when I tell you we stretched Lou’s birthday out another week and his party was not even a part of this blog!

But I am done for now and you may be pictured out, so we will leave that for another day….
