Like I said in the previous entry, on our trip home last weekend we made our way to Oatland Island to make a special “Big sister day" for Julian!
The goal of the day was really to just give Julian some alone time and to take a load off Ambers hands for the day as she is now a new mommy of TWO.. of yes, and to explore some wildlife!
Alex tries to get all his manliness out when we go home since Atlanta pretty much cramps his style as far as outdoor life, so anything that involves woods and water is a GO!
Oatland Island is a wildlife conservatory with all types of animals, alligators, bears, wolves, birds, fox, deer and bison that are for the most part in a “enclosed, natural habitat”.
They have a huge roaming area in the wild but it’s actually enclosed in sections for each animal and at night are held indoors
This was part of the alligators habitat but we didn’t see any at the time… next was the marshland bridge to see the foxes.
The journey itself was obviously the best part… The view was beautiful!
I think Alex and I were born to live near marshland…. it just feels like home to us, the smell, the wind, the beauty it all feels so “right”.
This was absolutely my favorite part of Oatland Island, the walkway over the marsh…
On to the next…
Once we made our way to the birds and these eggs were sitting outside for kids to stop and play around on….
Julian and another little girl were playing on them and when it was time to move on Julian said she couldn’t because a baby bird didn’t come out yet…
I looked at alex and said “Now, if that isn’t a four year old talking whose mommy just had a baby a week ago i don’t know what is!?!?”
There was a lot of historical sites on the property too including the building at top of the blog which was an old World War II hospital.
This was my view most of the day, it was a lot of walking so Julian was getting pretty tired and then shot off with bursts of energy!
I have to say though, i had the best view every, so sweet!
I love this one two, there’s never any telling what those two are up to..
I was trying to talk her into wearing her hood and remembered i had one to model for her, the wind was blowing so hard i just knew we would bring her home with an ear infection to be with a newborn! One Happy Girl!
Just when we thought we were almost done we found the wolves and a viewing room to view them a bit closer up!
This was another beautiful lookout over the water and marshland, Alex could not get enough!
Has anyone seen little Miss sunshine? If so, does Julian not look like the cute little girl olive below?
Ha that’s all I can think of!
Julian was so tired at this point and the wind was really picking up so we said goodbye to the buffalo’s and headed out!
Aside from Julian being the most adorable thing every i think she has such a classic look, many of faces and expressions she makes look old fashion to me … I love it.
Call me an old biased aunt if you must but i think most of you would agree with me!
Oatland island was simply beautiful and I highly recommend if you go to go early, we went around 3 and they close at 5 but by 4 they had already put most of the animals up so we didn’t see as many as we had liked.. all in all though it was an AMAZING, fun and special day!
We couldn’t end the day without an ice cream treat for Alex and I Julian! I have pretty much turned Alex into a cookie dough fanatic (at least when it comes to ice cream), so you can imagine our enjoyment when we saw Amber lives right next to a Dairy Queen!!
Welcome to the club Julian, you are now an official Cookie dough blizzard diver too!
Thank you for spending the day with us Jewels and for sharing your baby sister with us! You are going to make the coolest, sweetest and most loving big sister ever and we love you so much!
