We were so happy to continue our tradition of being “somewhere on the water” again this year as we headed down to Hilton Head but as everyone now knows we also had very big news we were bursting at the seams to share!!
Attempting to share this news in very special ways for each person was all i could think of for the 2 months that we had now known for HOWEVER… This is when I knew Baby Minnicks was already teaching us a lesson about expectations and who is really in charge.
Parenting lesson number one: Just because you plan for things to go a certain way does not mean they will. Check. Thank you in advance baby Minnicks!
Our first day/lesson actually started out with a phone call from Andy and Rachel informing us Bob had been in a bike accident and was in the hospital getting ready to have surgery on his hip…
Poor baby!
Thankfully- (partly due to this month old blog) he is now healing and doing much better!
Anyway so bob in the hospital meant: Scratch the idea of telling the whole family over breakfast before heading to the beach for this beautiful fourth!
It’s okay, we really did make the best of it, we were already used to it being a secret for 2 months now so what’s a few more days!? Another thought was to go ahead and tell Andy and Rachel at the beach that day but as soon as we arrived Rachel began describing the “not so flattering body figures of mothers” at the beach so we again decided… yeah maybe not such a good time.
Lets just enjoy our selves and some sunshine shall we!?!?
Lou in all of his colors of blue and me in none so I sported the red watermelon…
Blue Angels fly over.... how American.
Time with Shu bear and Avery but baby Avery is not such a fan of the beach!
That night we had a small cookout at Jane’s before going to see the fireworks (which never came, but that’s another story)! Julian watching Uncle Andy’s new toy fly!
That night we decided we just had to tell Rachel and Andy and we would hold out for Bob and Jane until bob started feeling better….. BUT we were 10 mintues too late for the surprise we had waited for! YUP, we got busted! Just before we headed to the fireworks Rachel discovered our BIG NEWS and shared it with Andy! Oh well, again I think it’s part of Baby Minnicks training us on expectations… “ok, ok we get it baby Minnicks!”
Never the less we’re all happy happy!!
Ok on to the details and fireworks we go!!
We were blue people not red… can you tell?
Time for fireworks or so we thought!
This was actually about the only fireworks we got and it was in the parking lot on the way back to the car…. BUMMER!
I will say we enjoyed our wait hanging out on some family friends boat at the marina but after waiting over 2 hours for fireworks we finally gave up…. they never came!! Well until the we got out of their view in the parking lot… err.
Oh well, on to a new day with more sun and mom and dad coming to the island to play with us and to finally talk about Baby Minnicks out loud!!!
Keeping it classy!
That night we needed 2 things… to sit by the water and mexican food….. San Miguels it is!
Three blonde Francisco’s…what more could you want!?!?
Daddy and his love for water…. and a good chair with a view.
No worries, mom is a close second to his love for water ;)
Dinner time! Do I have the sweetest sissy or what? She hates heels and she traded shoes with me before I even complained…. ( I think, its hard to keep up, sometimes it just comes out)
Soon after dinner I pulled my first “but I’m pregnant” card and had the entire family wait an hour in the Rita’s Italian Ice line with me to get my [LARGE] cherry fix!! mmmmmm heaven.
Lou and I didn’t get much beach time in together (lucky him) since he was more needed at his dad’s hanging a TV and getting his dads house all hooked up from when he came home from the hospital! What a sweet lil Son!
I did manage to sneak him away for a little sunshine and we got to take our 10 week pictures (yes I’m totally doing the weekly bump picture with my chalkboard at home!
That night we found out Bob got to come home from the hospital so before heading to Ana’s 10th birthday party we raced over to tell them the big news!
This is our “Is this really real faces!?” Tears of joy, surprises and happiness as they opened their “souvenir from St Thomas” a grandparents book! It was soooo fun to see their faces! They were shocked and ohhhh so, so happy for us!!
Our good news truly gave the bad news of Bobs stinky surgery a run for it’s money!!
Their response and Ana’s literally made our night… I have been journaling separately about everyone’s reactions so not to bore you but the short end of it is as we walked in the door to tell “the Thallers” but let’s be real- Nicole and Ana in particular…. Nicole immediately greets me and asks
“You want white wine"? You don’t want white? What do you want? Your not drinking? You can’t drink? OMG your pregnant!?!?!?
Keep in mind I never responded to any of her questions because she literally didn’t take a breath between any of them!!!
She knew though and was she ever excited! Then we yelled down for Ana!!
I asked Ana if she remembered years ago when I asked her to be our flower girl and then asked “Well now I need a baby sitter”!
The. child. flipped. out.
She instantly jumped on me and said “Mrs. Jen your having a baby!!??!?!”
Ok back to Ana’s big day- 10 is a big deal!!
The Alex’s haven’t changed much!! Solving the worlds problems on their computer!
My baby girl is growing up so fast! I still remember my first day baby sitting her when all she did was scream and I called mom almost in tears saying i didn’t think I would ever go back!
Boy would that have been the biggest mistake of my life! Happy tenth birthday Ana! I’m glad I could be with you for so many of them and hopefully many more!
Before leaving the island we got Bob all set up with a ramp and boy was he ever grateful! It was so nice to see a smile on his face after all that yucky hospital stay and surgery!
Then we were off to tell Alex’s mom the news! She totally didn’t get the “book” at first and thought it was a “grandparent book” for Avery and Julian… I soon clarified saying “not those grandchildren”…. Tears instantly!
She was ecstatic and Lou was sooooo happy to see her happiness!
How loved and spoiled Baby Minnicks is already! I love it!
Then we just had to see Ms. Karen’s new pride and joy ‘Lourden”!
He certainly is a gentle old soul!
We had big plans of finally getting to tell Renee and Stephanie in person Saturday at the beach (by this time we should have known better right) but last minute they couldn’t make it and we had planned to tell amber and the girls Sunday too but they couldn’t make it either :( So as we packed up and headed home from our very eventful weekend the phone calls began! I videotaped most of them and they are ALL quite humorous!
We wish we could have told everyone in person even if not as planned but we learned things not going as planned is only something we should start getting more and more used to as Baby Minnicks becomes more real in our lives and we are totally fine with all the surprises they are willing to throw our way as long as we get to keep the bigger picture…..
Being a Mommy and Daddy!
So please excuse the awful late fourth post but i couldn’t give this weekend justice without the secret first being out of what this weekend was all about!!
So thankful and even more excited to hear how excited, supportive and eager everyone is to meet our fastly growing little blueberry! We love finally being able to share this excitement with everyone!
